PART-TIME: approx. 25 hours/week. Must be available to work weekends.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Museum “Tinker Tech” Educators provide crucial support for the mission of EarlyWorks Children’s Museum. This position is responsible for assisting with the daily operation of The EarlyWorks Children’s Museum, specifically in the “Tinker Lab” science area. The primary focus of a Museum “Tinker Tech” Educator is to assist and guide museum visitors throughout the Tinker Lab space. The objective is to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of a variety of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities designed to create the building blocks for life long STEM learning. This position is responsible for ensuring superior customer service and providing exemplary experiences for all visitors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (General):
- Maintain a safe, clean and positive museum experience for all guests
- Greet and interact with guests in a friendly and professional manner
- Engage visitors in conversation regarding the museum exhibits
- Ensure that visitors have a memorable and positive experience
- Assist with preparation of materials for programs and visitor activities
- Assist with set up for special programs, activities and events
- Assist with other museum duties as needed
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Tinker Lab):
- Maintain the Tinker Lab area on a day to day basis to ensure it is clean, organized, safe and welcoming
- Notify Education Specialist of any supply or programming needs in a timely manner
- Engage visitors in conversation regarding STEM concepts presented in Tinker Lab activities
- Lead Tinker Lab program lessons including, but not limited to: daily lessons, field trips and birthday parties
- Presenting STEM lessons in a fun and engaging manner
- Assist with implementing monthly themes and activities for new guests experiences in Tinker Lab
- Assist with preparation of materials for STEM programs and activities in Tinker Lab
RECOMMENDED CHARACTERISTICS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Prefer at least 2 semesters of college course work related to a STEM field
- Experience working with children
- Enthusiasm, cheerfulness and a willingness to learn
- Enjoy interacting with the public
- The ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups
- Comfortable with public speaking
- Interest in a variety of STEM subjects and a basic knowledge of scientific concepts
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Work requires frequent physical effort such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and lifting light to moderately heavy objects. Work also requires physical dexterity in the frequent use of hand-eye coordination and manipulative skills using fingers and limbs.
